REVIEW
By Cecilia Barroso
Time passes. A city is built and deteriorates. In its ruins, verticalization gives way to a nature that has ceased to exist.
In her dystopian patterns, which are already engraved in the film's title, Isabelle Nouzha - who produces, photographs, edits and directs - searches for and finds the end of humanity. The starting point is well known, at least in all the world's major cities, but in her timelapse she depopulates and transforms it. These are well-chosen paths that stand out in the silent black and white.

This "Kingdom" is approached in a mysterious and almost esoteric way. Here, shadows are cast on trees and plants, on the windows of houses and their façades, forming a lively picture of recondite beauty. Wherever the focus is, the shadows seem to move at extreme speeds and manifest themselves thanks to fast-forward. Thus proposing an entrance to the unknown world that underlies the everyday and delves into the depths of nature.

Beirut, perhaps, after one of its many disasters. Beirut, certainly, but filmed like Pompeii, a city that has become archaeological and that certain tactics or techniques of experimental cinema gauge, test, reorder. A new symphony reorders the rubble. There is no human being here, nothing but minerals (and walls in ruins), filmed, as if torn from nothingness, in a superb black and white worked by visual and sound glissando, which a pseudo-minimalist music magnifies. Who will say why disasters trigger, in some spectators, such aesthetic feelings since Goya’s works?
